Do you remember the days before stretcher bars, magnets, fancy tools and project bags?  I think I do...I'm not really sure...

I started needlepointing as a teenager and my first piece was one of those where the center was already worked and all I did was continental stitch (IN WOOL) the background!

I have found a project which brings back those days when you sat and held your needlepoint in your hands.  There was the simple pleasure of stitching in your lap.  Yes, I used the "sewing" technique of needlepointing and parked my needle in the margin of my work and it didn't rust because I only had ONE project.  Wow, that was a long time ago.

This is a Pischke Pocket which is on 10 mesh so even if you don't feel well or you want to watch TV in a room without perfect lighting you can still stitch and get that old feeling back.  And yes you use Anchor Tapestry wool so it is all about the experience.  You can see where I started in the upper right corner last night.  The needlepoint will be attached to the bag as a pocket and it will make a great tote.

Oh, and did I point out...no stitch guides, plying, or laying tools are used in this process!!!

This is Little Witch who is lonely no more!

I just finished Hermina and have brushed her cats with a toothbrush to make them fluffy.  I know there are special tools for brushing Fuzzy Stuff, but I am at home alone with a refrigerator with a blinking control panel so using what I can!  Now I know what people mean when they say the fridge is on the blink!  Actually, the toothbrush worked pretty well and didn't mess up the fiber.  Good thing the dentist is always giving me one.

As you can see, Hermina's frog has much more character than Judith's!  Check out the beading on Hermina's frog - those are the SAME size beads, just done in a different way.  The ones that look bigger are done in the beaded brick stitch.

Introducing Fob Friends

Scissor Fobs

Magnets

My stitching friend Lisa has created a spectacular line of scissor fobs and magnets.  The fobs are made of crystals, sterling silver, beautiful glass beads and each one is ended with a super special charm.  Our stitching group has been privileged to receive these over the past few years and each one is more beautiful than the next!  The ones shown here are from her Patriotic Fourth of July collection and the magnets are from the Summer series.

They are currently available at Bedecked and Beadazzled.  Of course Ruth the "Queen of Bling" saw the appeal right away!

First Among Equals

I just received the Wolfman back from Ruth and look how special her finishing is!  He is number one of a series of twelve Halloween Monsters that I  have from WAY BACK!  I have eleven more PLUS the background to do - so you think I will finish?  I didn't think so either, so when we went on our Baltimore field trip I decided to have Ruth do some extra special finishing to get him "out of the closet".  He will be a great Halloween addition.  And yes I am aware that he is not Julius Caesar!

This has been a great finishing week for me!!!

Under Construction

Stable wall

I am working on the stable wall of the creche and am eating thread at twice my usual rate!  Oh well, I like to anchor my threads well.

I also spent about an hour working on changing the blog post color - wow almost as hard as reading a stitch guide!  Robin should blog all her tips on how she does all those great blog entries.

Too hot for anything but staying inside and stitching!!
